The Year 9/10 students battled the elements last night in the final of the Hull Plate Final

[29 Apr 2016]

The Year 9/10 students battled the elements last night in the final of the Hull Plate Final, against Wolfreton. The game didn’t get off to the best starts with several Wolfreton players failing to turn up, therefore Wolfreton only had 10 players. The students wanted to play the game, so we matched them and this meant that we had 7 players on the bench in bitter freezing weather.

All of the students that represented the academy gave their all in the swirling winter showers, both teams showed some good defence in the opening 10 minutes, leading to handling errors.

However, we soon began to play some good quality plays in attack and this lead to Jamie Logan crossing the line and adding with the conversion. After another two quick tries the students were leading  14-0, when Brandon Richards was sent to the sin bin for descent. This gave Wolfreton a glimmer of hope and they managed to squeeze over for a try, leaving the score 14-4 at half time.

The students game out fighting in the second half with some great defensive work from Calvin, Lewis Holmes, Connor D, Connor W and Gary Gibson in the middle of the park.

The great defence laid a platform for the attacking players in the team and resulted in the following try scorers:

Calvin x 2
Jamie x 2
Henry x 2
Conor W x 2
Conor D x 1

Not forgetting Joseph Milners last minute conversion after a full length run from Henry.

Leaving the final score 44-4, the students will be awarded the cup next week.
