Yr 8 Sky Try Tournament

[26 May 2016]

Fourteen year 7/8 travelled over to the Light Stream Stadium yesterday, to take part in the Yr 8 Sky Try Tournament.

The students were drawn  against the following teams in pool B:

St. Mary’s
Archbishop Sentamu
Kelvin Hall
Beverley Grammar
Sirius North

The winner of the group would have the opportunity to play on the pitch before the Hull Kr Vs Wigan Warriors fixture next Friday. The students battled the heavy rain throughout the afternoon and  the bitter cold temperatures. The students faced Archbishop Sentamu in the first game and both teams found it difficult to control the ball in the slippery conditions. Archbishop however capitalised on our mistakes and they ran over two quick tries. Dylan, Declan and Eddie then lifted the game, with some explosive runs putting Archbishop under pressure. However, Archbishop Sentamu managed to diffuse an high kick on their try line and run the full length of the pitch, leaving the score 12-0 at full time.

In the remaining four games, it was a very similar affair with both teams coughing up the ball under pressure in the wet conditions. The students lost their remaining three games, however, a number of students displayed high levels of skill and effort during each game.
