Extended Learning ‘Expert’ Learners
Students have been exploring war poetry in their English lessons and have been enjoying the works of Tennyson, Owen and Sassoon. So much so, that two of our pupils have gone away and written their own poems independently.
We are really impressed with their efforts and the fact that they were inspired by their lessons- a big well done to Keith Emmerson and Reiss Eccles.
Prepared to die the soldiers cry
As they stumble bravely into the pitch black night.
The moans and death cries all around
The booms bang and screaming sounds.
The flashing light from the guns light up the jaws of hell
are open wide, waiting for humans to slip inside.
Life has gone but history made
By the bravery of the Light Brigade.

This soldier is leaving for the war
Leaving his kids and his wife feeling torn
He knows one day he will make them proud
He says goodbye for what seems the last time
He steps on the plane
Takes one glance back
He knows one day he’ll be fighting in Iraq
He arrives at camp heart beating out his chest
He thinks positive takes a deep breath
Gun shots
Man down, man down
Time stops there’s no sound
This soldiers body is lying on the ground
Gun shots
Man down, man down
Time stops there’s no sound
This soldiers body is lying on the ground
He’s in the frontline
Feeling scared
Thinking positive
Every thing he sees is red
He rushes to the enemies
Firing bullets
There going everywhere
Blood rushes to his brain
He can’t feel any pain
Gun shots
Man down ,man down
Time stops there’s no sound
All his friends gather round
Gun shots
Man down,man down
Time stops there’s no sound
All his friends gather round
Rest in peace, rest in peace, rest in peace
You did your country proud
He’s destroyed
Lost a close brother
He’s gotta make a phone call
To tell his kids, wife and mother
Tell them how he saved my life
Provided me with cover and love
And the last words that left his mouth were
“Tell my wife I love her”
Rest in peace, rest in peace, rest in peace
You did our country proud
Ohhhh lone soldier
Ohhhh lone soldier
Ohhhh lone soldier
