Special Educational Needs

At Sirius Academy North, we are committed to developing an inclusive environment and continue to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents/carers to identify and remove barriers to learning.

We welcome students with all needs and endeavour to provide the necessary support required for them to flourish and become independent young adults.

For students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) we will:

  • Deliver high quality teaching alongside appropriate differentiation and adaptations to make the most of students’ strengths, enabling students to succeed within the classroom
  • Provide a range of resources supporting access to the curriculum and recognising opportunities to consolidate and extend learning
  • Provide opportunities to improve skills and address identified barriers to learning through strategically selected interventions
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning through regular target setting and reviews of their support and progress
  • Collaborate with parents/carers and wider agencies through a person-centred approach to support as and when required.

Independent Advice and Support

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provide impartial support for families, young people and professionals alike. In Hull SENDIASS is delivered by KIDS. Information about their services can be found here:
