Special Educational Needs

At Sirius Academy North, we are committed to developing an inclusive environment where relationships between staff, students, and parents/carers place value on working collaboratively to identify and remove barriers to learning and participation. We welcome students with needs across all four categories of need identified in the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and endeavour to provide the necessary support required for them to flourish.

For students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) we will:

  • Deliver high quality teaching which provides appropriate differentiation and adaptations to make the most of students’ strengths, enabling students to succeed within the classroom
  • Provide access to resources which support access to the curriculum and opportunities to consolidate and extend learning
  • Provide opportunities to improve skills to address identified barriers to learning through strategically selected interventions
  • Encourage them to take responsibility for their learning through regular target setting and reviews of their support and progress
  • Collaborate with parents/carers and wider agencies through a person-centred approach to support when required.

The Local Offer provides information on the services children, young people and their families, can expect from a range of local agencies across education, health and social care. Independent Advice and Support

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provide impartial support for families, young people and professionals alike. In Hull SENDIASS is delivered by KIDS. Information about their services can be found here:
