Year 8 SAN Rugby success
The Year 8 rugby continued their fine performance this week against a tough Hessle team. The students worked hard for each other in the first 30 minutes and took a slender lead into half time (12-8). Stand out performances in the first half from Harrison Collins and Callum Bamford.
Hessle came out strong in the 2nd half and had two sets of six on the Sirius North line, however, the defence stood strong and kept the visitors out.
Cody Welham soon began to show his class in attack, assisting 3 tries and scoring two of his own. Sirius North then began to control the game in the last 10 minutes, scoring 5 unanswered tries, leaving the final score 36-8.
All players were outstanding on the night. Man of the match (Cody Welham and Harrison Collins)
Year 7 football result
40 eager year 7 students attended trials night last Friday, hoping to earn a place in the football team. 16 students pulled on the SAN football kit last night against a very strong Archbishop team. The students started strongly and both sides wasted several chances to take the lead.
Hubert made two magnificent saves in the opening 15 minutes leaving the score 0-0. However, Archbishop soon began to dominate the midfield and broke away on two occasions, scoring two quick fire goals. This gave Archbishop a new confidence in attack and they scored 2 more goals before half time, leaving the score 4-0. Several changes were made at half time, to ensure the substitutes had the opportunity to impress. However, Archbishop did not let up on the pressure and the two centre midfielders scored another brace of goals to make the score 8-0. The students did not give up and Archie Glover got on the score sheet with a beautiful well taken goal. Tyler Hutchinson and Abdulah Yaqot, were denied by two fine saves from the Archbishop goalkeeper.
It was not Sirius North’s night, but the boys are back in for training tonight to build and regroup ready for next weeks game.
Man of the match- Abdulah Yaqot.
