Hull Schools Badminton Tournament
Vitto, Ignas, Airunas and Jacob represented the Academy in the Hull Schools Badminton Tournament at Ennerdale. The first round saw us up against Sirius West. Jacob and Vitto comfortably won their first round singles matches and this was followed up with convincing wins for all four pupils in their doubles matches. The second round, against St Mary’s College, started equally as well with singles wins for both boys. The first doubles game saw a much closer encounter with Ignas and Airunas running out eventual winners. The third round of games had us tied with Hymers. Vitto started well with a comprehensive win in his singles match, and this continued with all winning their singles and doubles games. Moving into the last round against Boulevard, Sirius North wanted to maintain their unbeaten record, and with things going to plan they WON again!
Unbeaten in every match – 20 matches and 20 wins, a well-deserved victory, and on to the Humberside Championships in February. Unfortunately, the Year 8/9 team say goodbye to Vitto who will be leaving us just after Christmas.
A great team effort.
The Year 10 boys (Ellis, Aristides, Dylan and Alex) tried to emulate their younger compatriots. However, as pointed out by Aristides they wouldn’t be as good as they didn’t have their own rackets!
They started well against Hymers but unfortunately lost the tie 4-1, with a sound win in the doubles by Alex and Aristides. The next round against Sirius Academy West, was a close encounter which went to the wire. In his singles match Aristides and his opponent tied on 20 points each, with a sudden death one-point winner, Aristides was unlucky to miss out. In the final game of the round Alex Montague and Ellis Clayton put up a brave fight to end up eventual winners 21-19. Round three was again another close encounter with Malet Lambert. After initially losing the first 2 singles games tactical mind games and clever play saw North draw level after 2 doubles games. In the final doubles games North narrowly missed out. The final round of games was against a strong St Mary’s team, one of the closest draws saw us narrowly miss out. Still a great team effort.
