Sirius Academy North 32 The Marvell College 22
The Sirius Academy North Year 8 Rugby Team have booked themselves a place in the Hull Schools Trophy Final after a 32 – 22 victory over the Marvell College.
Sirius started the game well and managed to score a try in their first set of six as the strong and powerful Year 7 forward Ashton ran over 60 meters to touch down for an early 4 – 0 lead. Sirius once again looked after the ball well in their next set of six and got over agian to extend the lead, this time it was Jake who powered his way over for 8 – 0. After a mistake from the kick off, which gave Marvell some good field position, they showed their speed and skill to go over in the corner for 8 – 4. Good defence from the Sirius side forced a knock on, and from the resulting scrum Jake went over for his second of the game, Mason took over the kicking duties and slotted the ball over to make it 14 – 4. Sirius were growing in confidence and it wasn’t long before captain Mason went over to extend the lead even further after some smart play and quick thinking from a penalty to make it 20 – 4. Just before the halftime whistle Marvell got one back to make the score at the break 20 – 8.
Sirius were given a talking to about concentration and teamwork at halftime, along with the boys motivating each other saying how much they would love to get to a final. This had an immediate impact in the second half as the boys came out all guns blazing. Jake went over for his hat-trick showing great strength and determination to go over, Mason converted 26 – 8. Max was next on the scoresheet as he built up some speed and managed to shrug off any attempted tackles and run over 50 meters to score. Mason was clinical with the boot, which made the score line 32 – 8. Sirius either took their foot off the gas, or fatigue set in as The Marvell College made it a nervous ending to the game with two tries of their own to make the final score 32 – 22 in favour of Sirius Academy North. The boys celebrated their victory and was extremely proud of themselves for reaching the Hull Schools Trophy Final.
