Sirius North Performs at the Royal Albert Hall

[25 Nov 2017]

On Wednesday 15th November, 15 of our students  travelled to The Royal Albert Hall in London, to perform alongside other secondary schools in Hull and other ensembles from areas around the country as part of the Music For Youth Proms. It was a very early start- 6.30am- made easier by the fact they were travelling down to London on Hull City’s official coach (Wifi, TVs, leather seats, x boxes…). Students rehearsed their pieces in the afternoon, with the final performance involving all ensembles beginning at 7pm.

Students performed in the premiere of local composer, Tom Lawrence’s piece ‘Hear Hull’ which featured 700 instrumentalists and vocalists from Hull secondary schools. After listening to a range of diverse acts and performances,  the night ended with an explosive finale, involving all 1000 young musicians that had taken part in the MFY Proms last night. All students, staff and accompanying parents arrived back to the academy at 3am, tired but elated by their experience.
