U13 Girls Rugby Team Update
The U13 Sirius Academy North girls rugby team managed to win all their games in the East Riding Rugby Union Schools Competition at Hull University. After coming second in the rugby league tournament last week, the girls were determined to get back to winning ways.
Sirius Academy North 4 Cottingham 0
The defence of Sirius Academy North was outstanding from the start, with some big tackles in the middle of the park, but also some good scrambling defence when the ball was played out wide. Macey Boyle was the first on the scoresheet as she stepped her way through the Cottingham defence, showing great speed and agility. Holly Spenceley was proving hard to handle as she burst through tackles to double the lead. Macey Boyle went over for her second before Charlie Stephenson crashed over after some great teamwork.
Sirius Academy North 5 Sirius Academy West 4
When these two teams meet it is always a good close game, and this one was no different, with both sides looking strong. Sirius North took an early lead after Holly Spenceley continued to cause problems with her strength and agility going over for two tries. Sirius West got one back before Sirius North got another two quick tries to extend the lead even further, this time it Was Charlie Stephenson who showed great support play and urgency as she went over the tryline twice from close range. Sirius Academy West picked up their game and scored two tries in quick succession to make it 4 – 3 and a tense finish to the match. Leoni Parry made the next try after a great run forward and smart off load to Charlie Stephenson who went over for her hat-trick. Sirius West scored a last consolation try to make the final score 5 – 4 to North. Credit must goto captain Terri-Leigh Hilton in this match, as her defence was exceptional, as was her leadership skills in organising the team.
Sirius Academy North 6 St Marys College 1
Sirius North were growing in confidence with each game and the teamwork on show was outstanding. Macey Boyle went over for the first try of the game before Holly Spenceley and Terri-Leigh Hilton made it 3 – 0. St Marys got a try back of their own, but Holly Spenceley was scoring for fun and she broke through tackles with ease to get two more tries before Charlie Stephenson went over in the last play of the game.
Sirius Academy North 10 Kelvin Hall 0
Tries in this game came from Holly Spenceley (4), Jasmine Tidswell (1), Terri-Leigh Hilton (4), Charlie Stephenson (1). But again the defence was exceptional with Jasmine Tidswell, Jordan Roberts and Leoni Parry working hard to ensure they kept a clean sheet.
Sirius Academy 11 Wolfreton 5
Wolfreton looked a strong and well organised team and Sirius North knew this would be a tough test. Year 7 India Prince was not taking a backwards step as she tackled and hard and ran with power and speed, as she had done all through the competition. Jazmine Roberts and Leona Adamson was coming more into the game as they grew in confidence. Holly Spenceley went over for a quick hat-trick, but Wolfreton also kept the ball well and ran strong, scoring a couple of tries of their own. Terri-Leigh Hilton, Holly Spenceley and Charlie Stephenson continued to dominate and score numerous tries, before Jordan Roberts got her first for Sirius Academy North to cap off a great individual and team performance.
Next up for the U13 Girls Rugby team is the Rugby Union Competition at Driffield on 9th March, that could see them progress onto the Yorkshire finals, and if they have a repeat of their performance from this tournament they stand a very good chance.
