U13 Girls win their first RU Tournament

[06 Nov 2015]

The Sirius Academy North team played their first ever Rugby Union tournament last night at Hull RUFC and managed to beat every team they came up against. As we had 13 players, at times the squad split up into two teams, with both getting victories at every match they played, scoring many fantastic individual and team tries throughout.

Teams that were defeated by Sirius North included St Marys, Howden, Wolfreton, Kelvin Hall and Sirius West.

Sirius West was their toughest opponents throughout the tournament, as every other school they beat fairly convincingly, averaging seven tries a game. But it was the defence of the tough Sirius North team that was exceptional, only letting in four tries in the whole competition.

The biggest test of the night was against Sirius West, two good, well organised and strong teams, but it was North that came out worthy winners running in three tries in the first six minutes. First over the try line was Charlie Stephenson as she crashed over showing real power and determination. Then it was Holly Spenceley on her rugby debut that showed strength and speed to go over for a long range try. Sirius West tried to get back into the game, but the defence of Kelsey Uscroft and Terri-Leigh Hutton meant there was no way through. Macey Boyle showed great footwork to jinx her way through the West defence to extend the lead. Sirius North were looking dangerous with the ball in the hands and were making some good yards, with Chelsea Opie and Jordan Roberts breaking through tackles. With not long left Sirius West got some joy down the left hand side as they went over for  try of their own. The scoreline remained 3 – 1 till the final whistle.

Please congratulate the squad on their attitude, effort and success! Also, special thanks to Miss Warrener for her support with the team.
