Y8 Girls Rugby team

[21 Feb 2018]

The Sirius North girls took to the pitch for their first rugby league tournament of the year, with a strong squad of 13 girls they were in high spirits and had a good warm up to prepare themselves.

Match 1: SAN 5 vs Archbishop Sentamu 4

The first game was a tight game against Archbishop Sentamu who like North has been progressing nicely. Early in the game North showed they were not scared to offload the ball and following a brilliant run from Millie Tymon to attract a number of Archie players a lovely pass gave Lucy Hayley the chance to step the last defender and score an early try. Archie equalised and the game went try for try with a hat trick of tries scored by Millie Tymon after some commanding runs by the 2 Y7 girls Rejoice and Zoe. The score was 4-4 going into the last couple of minutes but then up stepped Shahad who had put some amazing pressure on from square marker to force the mistake and go over for the winning try.

Match 2: SAN 5 vs SAW 4

Second game was the big Sirius derby a win in this game would send the girls to the Yorkshire finals, however West always field a strong side. Again the North girls started strong with Y7 Zoe breaking the West line to score the first try. West replied but only for Rejoice to then show her strength and steam over the line for the second try. The game was again a very close affair with both teams looking equally as strong. Going into the second half of the game and with some try saving tackles coming in from the girls on the wing, Maja and Farida, the North girls stormed on to win the game 5-4 with another hat trick of tries for Millie Tymon who was in a menacing mood.

Match 3: SAN 3 vs Malet Lambert 5

The North girls had already done enough to reach the Yorkshire Finals and the final game saw the North girls go against a Malet team who had reached the National finals last year. Malet started the strongest and picked up an early 2-0 lead. The North girls however did not give up easily and with a brilliant try coming from Ella Mallinson on the wing they were back in the game. The game again was end to end, Millie scoring her 7th and 8th try of the tournament kept the game very tight but North were just pipped.

Overall the girls finished 2nd and will compete later on in the term in the Yorkshire finals, a very good achievement.
