Year 11 Boys RL – Sirius Academy West 14 Sirius Academy North 16
Sirius Academy West 14 Sirius Academy North 16
In the semi-final of the Hull Schools Trophy, Sirius Academy North travelled to Sirius Academy West for the big Year 11 derby match and earn a place in the final in their last year at the Academy.
The game was very evenly matched for the first twenty minutes with both defences looking strong, especially down the middle. Declan Wilds, Liam Forsyth and Gabriel Romianowska were breaking through the Sirius West defence but just couldn’t get over the tryline. Sirius North controlled the ball better in the opening exchanges but it was Sirius West who went over first on the 21st minute as their speedy centre found a gap out wide and rounded the Sirius North defence to go over for the first try of the match. Sirius North wanted a try back before half time, and they did just that with only one minute remaining before the break, smart thinking from Mason Webster saw him follow up his neat grubber kick and ground the ball just to the side of the post. Gabriel Romianowska converted to make it 6 – 4 in favour of the North side.
The second half started with Sirius West on top, and when Sirius North made a few errors, the West side capitalised with two tries to take the lead and make the scoreline 14 – 6 with ten minutes remaining. The 12 man Sirius North side looked determined to get over for the next score and worked hard as a team in defence to ensure Sirius West did not go over for anymore tries with some great last ditch tackles. You would have thought the North boys would have tired with only having 12 men, but their heart and desire pushed them through and they got the try they thoroughly deserved, and what a try it was, the impressive Gabriel Romianowska broke through the defensive line and it was a race to the tryline, he just got caught short but a great offload to the supporting Declan Wilds saw him go over and close the gap to only 4 points. 14 – 10 in favour of Sirius West with five minutes left on the clock. Sirius North were running their blood to water as their massive effort in defence saw Sirius West make an error. From the resulting set of six they got close to the West tryline and Declan Wild had the determination and strength to power over from close range and go in under the sticks to level the scores. Gabriel Romianowska held his nerve for the conversion to make it 16 – 14 as the Sirius North team celebrated their win on the final whistle.
This determined Year 11 side will now face either Malet Lambert or Wolfreton in the Hull Schools Trophy Final, an outstanding achievement that was thoroughly deserved.
