Year 7 Boys 9 a-side Rugby WIN!

[16 May 2024]

Our Year 7 Boys Rugby team were crowned the Hull KR ‘Inspired by 9s’ champions last night after going unbeaten in the competition, which consisted of 6 teams from across the Hull and East Riding area.

Sirius North started the tournament in fine form with a victory over Trinity House. Next up for Sirius North would be their toughest test – the Sirius derby. North started the brightest and managed to go over first with a superb individual try by Jack M as he rounded the West defence and had the intelligence to go over for a crucial 6 point try. West responded immediately, but only for a 4 pointer.  Some good pressure from North saw them get a repeat set on the West tryline after a great kick from Nolan L that caused the error from West. Some smart play from acting half back Blaine B saw him scoot over for another 6 pointer, to put them 12 – 4 in front. West responded again to make it 12 – 10 to North, but the final whistle went, and bragging rights went to the Sirius North side.

Sirius North went on to win their next game against Beverley Grammar and they knew going into the next game against Malet Lambert that they needed the win to have a good chance of being crowned champions.  Malet had a good side, but the attack play from Sirius North was outstanding as Blaine B went over for an early score, Kasper P extended the lead further with an unstoppable run down the middle of the pitch. Malet got one back of their own. But Sirius North were playing some great rugby, and the next try was a real team effort as it went through no fewer than 5 pairs of hands for Mason C to go in at the corner. Malet scored again to make for a nervous finish, but the impressive Jacub P powered his was over to seal the victory.

St Mary’s were unable to finish the competition, so Sirius North got the points from that game – meaning that Sirius North had gone unbeaten in the whole of the tournament and would be crowned well deserved champions! Captain Nolan L enjoyed lifting the trophy at the end, with big cheers from his teammates.

Please congratulate the Year 7 boys on their outstanding performance, sportsmanship and teamwork:
