Year 7 Boys Rugby
Trinity Academy (Halifax) 24 Sirius Academy North 10
The Sirius Academy North Year 7 Boys Rugby team were knocked out of the Yorkshire Plate by a strong Trinity Academy side from Halifax. The long journey must have took its toll, as the Sirius side struggled to get going and found themselves 20 – 0 down at the halftime break. However, the second half was a different story. Miss Gay and Mr Spink spoke about some basic improvements and put in place some challenges for the second half, which the Sirius side responded to well. Sirius managed to go over twice in the second half to make the score 20 – 10 with five minutes to go, and a chance to go on and win the game. But it was Trinity who had the last word with a try on the final whistle.
The Sirius North tries came from the impressive Blane, who found a gap after a strong run from Kasper, who had dragged in the Trinity defence, smart play from Blane saw him go around the defenders, pick up speed and no-one could catch him as he went over in the corner. Shortly after Sirius turned defence into attack, when Nolan managed to do a one on one steal, as the ball hit the floor fullback Jack was first to react as he picked the ball up on his own 5 meter line and ran down the wing, nobody could catch him as he placed the ball down under the sticks, a fine 95 meter try from the speedy fullback. The forwards of Kayden, Harvey, Jacob and Kasper were willing runners down the middle of the park, making good yards forward, with no errors in contact. Nolan was working hard in the halfback position, trying new things in attack to bring on the big, strong players. Mason was moved into the half back position in place of Finley, who had to leave the field with a head injury. Mason looked dangerous with ball in hand and took the line on well.
The defence of the Sirius side definitely got better as the game went on, limiting Trinity to only one try in that second half, which was on the last play of the game. This team has come on massively since the start of the year, with very few rugby players in the team, we are very inexperienced, however, we are starting to understand the game better and the improvements are evident with each game they play.
Players of the match was shared between Blane and Jack.
The players should be extremely proud of themselves for their performance
