Year 7 Boys Yorkshire RL Cup Semi Final
Archbishop Sentamu 0 Sirius Academy West 26
The impressive Sirius Academy West Year 7 Boys Rugby League Team continued on from their fantastic win away at Castleford Academy by beating Archbishop Sentamu in the Yorkshire Cup Semi Final by 26 point to 0.
The game started very evenly matched with both teams completing their sets really well, but the defence from both sides was outstanding and not many clean breaks were made. With fifteen minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken after quick thinking from captain Alfie Wilson, when he scooted over from acting half back on the last tackle, with Matt Grant converting to make it 6 – 0. Not long after Sirius Academy doubled their lead when Clifford Appiah showed his strength and speed as he went over, Matt Grant converted again to make it 12 – 0 at the halftime break.
The defence from the Sirius Academy West side was outstanding, as Archbishop Sentamu threw everything at them, but there was no way through the middle as Cohen Cass, Louis Coultass and Billy Whittle stood strong. Archbishop Sentamu tried to go down the edges with having no luck down the middle, but Alex Atkinson and Mason Hilton was up to the challenge. Sirius grew in confidence with the ball in hand and after a great break from fullback Alfie Phillips, the quick play the ball saw Jay Dawson break through and go in out wide to make it 16 – 0. It wasn’t long before Jay Dawson got his second with a fine solo try proving too strong and fast for the opposition, Alfie Wilson converted to make it 22 – 0. Sirius was priding themselves on their defence and celebrated when they managed to keep Archbishop Sentamu from going over close to their tryline as the full team worked hard together to ensure they kept a clean sheet. Clifford Appiah rounded off the scoring when he raced over 60 meters from a scrum in his own half, to make the final score Archbishop Sentamu 0 Sirius Academy West 26.
Sirius Academy West will play in the Yorkshire Cup Final on Thursday 2nd April at Featherstone Rovers RLFC, opposition yet to be decided. But next up for this talented group of boys is the Road to Wembley, as they play in the National Cup Round 1 Match where they have drawn at home to St John Fisher and will be played early February.
