Year 7 football SAN Sports News
Please congratulate the Year 7 Boys on an excellent performance yesterday at the 5-a-side schools competition.
Arriving with seconds to spare they were rushed in to play against Andrew Marvell and almost pulled off a major upset but Marvell scored from the penalty spot in what turned out to be the last kick of the game. However we bounced back with a 5-1 demolition of Kingswood before playing against one of the tournament favourites Malet Lambert. The game was end to end drama with both teams hitting the woodwork, however with a minute to go Malet took the lead and ensured a victory with a further goal. However, we still had chance to prove ourselves in a play off game as we came from behind to beat Archbishop Sentamu 4-3. This result was particularly pleasing as we had lost to Archie earlier in the year, so it proves just how much this team has improved.
What was particularly pleasing were the comments I received on behalf of the boys from teachers from other schools and parents who were not only impressed with their skills, but also their conduct, enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Ryan Brown (goal keeper – great saves!)
Callum Noble (solid in defence, difficult to beat)
Arthurs Bilands (versatlie and dependable)
Tom Downing (4 goals – great energy, commitment…never stops running!)
Diego Oliveira (2 goals – sublime skill, a joy to watch)
Sam Miles (5 goals – led the attack with skill and strength)
Josh Russell (full of energy and commitment)
