Last night myself and Miss Mead took the year 8 girls football team to St Mary’s to take part in their 7 aside football competition.
The girls were put into a group with 3 other schools. A 1-0 win against St Mary’s C (Lucy Hayley with the goal), a 0-0 draw with Andrew Marvell and a heavy 5-0 defeat to favourites St Mary’s A meant the girls had done enough to progress through to the semi final of the competition to face Kelvin. Nothing could split the two sides until a late goal by Kelvin meant the girls agonisingly missed out on a place in the final. We were left to play Winifred Holtby in the 3rd/4th place play off. The girls started slowly going 2-0 down fairly quickly. Lucy Hayley pulled back a late goal to make it 2-1 with 2 minutes to go however this was not enough to win the game. The girls finished 4th overall out of 9 teams. If you see any of the girls around the academy, please congratulate them for their efforts:
