Year 8 Girls Rugby League Team finish 2nd in Hull Schools Tournament
The Year 8 Girls Rugby League team played in the Hull Schools Cup on Friday and managed two wins out of three games, finishing second overall.
St Marys College “A” 3 Sirius Academy North 5
Sirius North started the tournament well with a good win over a strong St Marys “A” side. The attack play for Sirius North was outstanding as they scored five well deserved tries showing real strength and speed. The defensive line struggled to move up together on a few occasions which allowed St Marys to go over for three tries of their own.
St Marys College “B” 2 Sirius Academy North 6
Another strong display for Sirius North in the second game of the tournament ensured that it was a comfortable victory, running in six tries as the team started to work together and support each other more in attack and defence. St Marys did struggle to break through the strong defensive qualities of the North side, but as the game progressed the Sirius girls started to tire and gaps appeared for St Marys to capitalise on.
Sirius Academy West 8 Sirius Academy North 6
These two sides had met each other on a few occasions this year and it has always been a close game, with this one being no different. Both sides knew that whoever won this one would be crowned the Champions of Hull as they had won all their previous matches. Nothing could separate the sides in the early exchanges as both teams attacked well but struggled to defend as the tries kept on coming. West would score, then North would score, and with only five minutes remaining the scores were level. A couple of mistakes from the North side gave the West team some good field position, in which they managed to get over for two quick tries and seal the victory. But this game could have gone either way and both teams should be very proud of the rugby they played.
