Year 9 football match report

[16 Mar 2015]

This week the Year 9 football team went across to Sirius Academy for the Hull Schools cup quarter finals. After a successful league campaign in which the team remained unbeaten, there were high expectations going into the fixture against one of the stronger sides in the City. The game started with Sirius largely on top, although some incisive counter attacks from TFA were ensuring we were very much in the game. After a bright start though Sirius took advantage of a rebound from a free kick to take the lead. Two more goals followed soon after to give the hosts a 3-0 lead nearing the interval. At this point a quick break involving Jamie Logan created a chance for Owen Kirke who followed in well to make it 3-1 at half time. The second half began strongly and more TFA pressure led to chances being created but no further additions to the score. Sirius then made use of one of their own which took them into a commanding 4-1 lead. We didn’t give up though and kept pushing for a way back into the game, which duly came from Jakub Kryza’s neat finish. With only a couple minutes remaining, Bailey Fuller scored from close range after a corner and the score was 4-3, still a chance of taking it to extra time. One more opportunity came our way with seconds remaining but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Sirius went through to the semi finals. A good game between two competitive sides and another good performance from TFA overall.
