Year 9 Girls – Hull Schools Rugby League
The Year 9 Girls played rugby league for the first time in the Hull Schools Cup yesterday at the new Hull FC Training Facility on Chamberlain Road. Considering this is the first time the Year 9’s had played any competitive rugby league, they did not disappoint and showed some real quality, proving that with a bit more training and game time they will be a very good team as year 10’s when they come back after summer.
Sirius Academy West 5 Sirius Academy North 0
Sirius North were handed a tough first game as the Sirius West side have been playing together for three years and played many fixtures during that time. But the Sirius North team worked hard and was putting in some strong tackles making it very difficult for the West side to get over the tryline with some excellent last ditch defending. Sirius North managed to keep them out well in the early exchanges but the Sirius West side were more experienced, and showed that as they ran in five tries without reply.
Sirius Academy North 3 Archbishop Sentamu 3
Sirius North had learnt a lot from their first game and put out a much improved display against Archbishop Sentamu, keeping hold of the ball better for their sets of six and getting their rewards with three well worked tries. The defence was struggling to move up together in a line and they paid the price by letting Archbishop Sentamu in for three tries of their own. Archibishop Sentamu had played in some previous competitions, so to manage a draw was a great result!
Sirius Academy North 1 St Marys College 4
A big, strong St Marys side proved too much for the Sirius North team as they used their size advantage by crashing over for four tries. But credit to the Sirius North girls, they would not give up and kept battling till the end and managed to get over for a try of their own. The girls have certainly learnt a lot from the competition and will be better players for it.
Sirius North finished in joint 3rd place, along with Archbishop Sentamu and should be very proud of the way they played in their first ever game of rugby. Please congratulate the girls on their performance, attitude and behaviour.
