⚽️ Year 10 Boys Football - Plate Semi-Final

Sirius Academy North (0) vs St Mary's College (3) - Year 10 Plate Semi Final

Sirius Academy North hosted St Mary's College in a thrilling Year 10 Plate Semi Final encounter. With a large squad of 22 players, North ensured everyone had the opportunity to participate by fielding two separate teams throughout the match.

First Half

The game kicked off with a lively start, both teams cancelling each other out in a closely contested midfield battle. North had the first clear-cut chance, but St Mary's defence held firm at the last minute. The deadlock was broken however, when St Mary's were awarded a free kick 35 yards out. Their number 10 stepped up and delivered a curling strike that found the top right corner, leaving Sirius Academy's goalkeeper Tyler helpless despite a valiant effort.

North responded positively, with Peter unleashing a powerful shot that was met by a superb save from the St Mary's goalkeeper. Jayden then tested the keeper again with a bending effort towards the top right corner, but once again, the keeper rose to the challenge. At the other end, Tyler kept North in the game with two crucial punches from corners.

North enjoyed a dominant spell in the final five minutes of the half. Jayden was brought down inside the penalty area, earning a spot-kick for North. Unfortunately, Jayden's penalty strike sailed over the crossbar.

Second Half

The second half saw a significant change in personnel, with 10 substitutions made by North, including seven players making their competitive debuts. The game's structure shifted, with St Mary's taking control of possession and creating numerous chances. North's defence displayed remarkable resilience however, keeping the score at 1-0. A defensive lapse eventually allowed St Mary's to double their lead.

Emanuel and Peter injected fresh energy into North's attack with some explosive runs and strong challenges. Despite their efforts, North struggled to find the net, with St Mary's defenders throwing themselves in front of every shot. North gradually regained control of possession but were wasteful in front of goal.

St Mary's capitalised on North's frustration, adding a third goal to solidify their lead. North refused to give up and continued to attack cleverly, but the inspired St Mary's goalkeeper remained unbeatable, blocking every shot and claiming every loose ball.

Conclusion

Congratulations to all the players involved for their dedication and sportsmanship throughout the match. A special thanks goes to Mr Booth for his support in organising the sidelines and running the linesman role.

The Year 9's are next up for Sirius Academy North, facing Malet Lambert on Thursday.
